Chapman's Peak, the Winelands, and the Best Way to See Them by Car

Chapman's Peak Drive, the cliffside road linking Hout Bay and Noordhoek, is one of the most photographed drives in the world for good reason — but it's also one of the few on our network that can close at short notice, which is worth planning around.

Check for closures before you set off. The road is occasionally closed for rockfall risk or high wind, sometimes with only a few hours' notice — a quick check the same morning saves a wasted trip out to the gate.

This is convertible weather most of the year. A Porsche 911 GTS Cabrio or one of our Mercedes E-Class Cabriolets suits the coast road and the city driving around Camps Bay and the Atlantic Seaboard better than anything with a fixed roof.

Split the coast and the Winelands across separate days. Cape Town itself — Chapman's Peak, Table Mountain, Camps Bay — is one kind of drive; Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are a completely different pace, with longer, straighter roads through the vineyards. Trying to do both in one day means rushing at least one of them.

Amara's Cape Town fleet is available on a two-day minimum, with delivery throughout the city.
